food for thought.

This may be my favorite winter so far…70s?? I’m loving the summer feel. But, it is still February and we have a ways to go until that…for now, Happy Ash Wednesday!

Ever heard the term “food porn”? I was trying to describe it the other day…it may seem pretty obvious, or it may seem confusing. It is more than just pictures of food that are so enticing you want to eat the food. It’s spiking a desire and lust for food  when there isn’t a real physical hunger. Maybe it creates a physical hunger for things that are harmful to the body (too much sugar, for instance) or a craving for too much of something. Like Israeli honey balls:) I’ve heard the term thrown around jokingly, kind of like “check out this website, their food looks so good-it’s like food porn!” The thing is, I think food porn functions in a lot the same way as the other kind. I know it does for me. I can waste a lot of time looking up recipes, reading about food, and looking at pictures of food. No, none of those things is inherently wrong, but if it is leading me to waste my time, to start craving things I shouldn’t, or lead me to unhealthy behavior, then it is a downfall.Maybe you’re thinking, why in the world then, do you have a food blog that has pictures of food?? I think I have only recently realized how it affects me. The intent of blogging is neither to preach about stuff or to cause anyone to want food to an unhealthy degree. (Although, my camera isn’t that great as to take that great of pictures…). I try to present a healthy view of food-at least a balanced one. And part of the food porn is the addiction-spending too much time, being consumed by it.

So this isn’t a condemnation of food blogs, nor is it saying pictures of food are bad. Just a little something to chew on and think of how it affects you.
